James Collins and Catherine Driscoll (who also went by Cadogan) lived in Russagh, immediately south of Skibbereen.
James was probably the son of Humphrey Collins (1785-1873) and Johanna Barnane of Lissane Lower, Caheragh, Co Cork, Ireland. Besides James, Humphrey and Johanna had daughters Catherine Collins Donovan (1820-?); Mary (1827-?); Norry (1829-?); Johanna (1835-?); and son Patrick (1839-?).
There may have been another son John (1824-1882), married Ellen McCarthy 23 Jan 1858. His information remains speculative. John's and Ellen's son Denis married Honora Hourihane in 1887. They had two girls and a boy and possibly moved to Dunderow. This has become a dead end. The family of John's and Ellen's son James (1863-1953) married to Mary Gaffney is documented in a number of family trees at Ancestry.com. So far, no DNA evidence has emerged providing conclusive evidence that John was the brother of James, the subject of this page.
