Note: This paternal lineage falls under R-M222. This haplogroup does show up in southern Ireland and in Cork, though it is tightly linked with the northern part of Ireland and Scotland.

For further information:

This particular Collins family lived in Needham, Norfolk, Massachusetts as well as Waltham, Middlesex MA. From Ireland, the family may have lived in England before eventually settling in the United States.

Laura Annie Lynes Collins (d. 1909) is interred at Needham Cemetery.

See: John J. Collins (widowed) Gordon Street, Waltham Ward 3, Middlesex, Massachusetts in the 1910 census.

See: John J. Collins in Waltham Ward 2 ED 486 in the 1920 census.

This paternal line is being actively researched. Unfortunately there are knowledge gaps of the Collins family in England and in Ireland. There are no useful Y DNA matches for family history guidance, though remote other-surname matches show ancestry from Clonakilty in County Cork as well as other parts of southern Ireland.

Parents of the patriarch Michael (top of the tree) are assumed to be Patrick Collins and Catherine Coogan (possibly Coughlan), both born in Ireland. Patrick's father may have been Cornelius.

Current research is investigating the possibility that Michael was born in Bawnfune, Kilmacabea, Co Cork, Ireland. A relative branch might be Cornelius Collins m. Helena (Ellen) Quinlan, who have records in Murragh & Templemartin.
